Wooden fences have a cozy, classic look, but over time they can start to wear down and need removing. But don’t worry, the folks on YouTube have a quick and easy way to take down an old fence without totally wiping you out.
Wooden fences may look nice, but they require a lot of work to keep them from getting damaged by pests and the elements. If cared for properly, a wooden fence can last 15-20 years. But when it starts leaning, rotting, or getting infested, it’s time to say goodbye.
Having the right tools makes a big difference when removing an old fence. In the video, they used an impact drill to unscrew the fence, plus a farmjack, nail gun, and Sawzall to get it down fast. Just be sure to wear a mask and safety glasses so you don’t breathe in any debris.
Remove an old fence in three easy steps

First, do a quick check of the fence and surrounding area. Make sure there aren’t any buried utility lines, and if there’s lattice on top, use an impact drill to unscrew that first.
Next, break out the Sawzall and cut through the wood panels right next to each post. This will let you take down the panels in sections.
Finally, the toughest part – getting those posts out of the ground. Use a farmjack and a 2×4 as a lever to easily pop the posts right up. Then just cut the panels down to size for disposal, and you’re all set!
