First, decide on the size of your shoe rack. Measure the width of your staircase and choose a 1×6, 1×8, or 1×12 board accordingly. You’ll want enough room to walk around it comfortably. Then, grab a power drill, some screws, a level, a stud finder, and some wall brackets. Cut the boards to size – one for the horizontal shelf and one for the vertical support. Attach them at a 90-degree angle, making sure everything is level and secure. You can even add an extra shelf in between the steps for more storage.
