IKEA knows how to keep up with the times as its customers’ tastes and lifestyles change. Since 1943, this Swedish furniture company has been all about delivering stylish, functional products that don’t drain your wallet. And they’re constantly rolling out fresh new items. The company releases carefully curated collections that cater to specific styles and needs. This August 2026, they’re launching the KOMPISHÄNG collection. This brand new collection packs 13 pieces that are portable, sleek, multi-functional, and super affordable. These are pieces designed to move with you. The concept came straight from chats with 20- to 28-year-olds living in London. IKEA wanted to get real about what life looks like for modern young adults and what they actually want in their spaces. Turns out, it’s smart storage solutions, thoughtfully designed furniture, and curated pieces they can easily take from one place to another without needing a truck. There’s a real shift happening where people want to stay flexible while still making each new space feel like home. “We paid attention to how intentional people are about the things they bring with them to different places, and that really informed what we created,” Dora Ding, a Product Developer at IKEA of Sweden, explained in an interview. “We designed this collection to be easy to move around, but it should still look like it belongs. People want to feel comfortable and at home.” The cool part? Two of the designers leading this charge are industrial design students from Älmhult who came through IKEA’s internship program twice a year. Plus, they’re part of the exact age group this collection is made for — young adults in their 20s.

Here’s what you’re getting with the KOMPISHÄNG collection
KOMPISHÄNG is totally different from your typical IKEA drop. It’s been thoughtfully made for one specific goal — helping young adults who move around frequently feel at home no matter where they land. The young designers on the team pushed for a more muted color scheme, believing that the smaller apartments a lot of 20-somethings are renting these days look better with neutrals. Other IKEA collections from earlier in 2026 went bold with color, but KOMPISHÄNG is taking a different approach with more flexibility in mind. You’ll see lots of natural pine woods mixed with soft beiges, plus subtle touches of deep red and green to add a little personality.
The collection includes a desk, mattress/pouffe, stools, a side table, hanging wardrobe organizer, mirror, door hangers, a back cushion, plant pot, bookend, and a rolling storage bag. Best part? Most of these pieces come together with no tools or complicated instructions needed. The last thing you want when you’re moving to a new place every year is to spend hours assembling furniture. Many items pull double duty too, like the stackable stools that turn into tiered storage when you’re not sitting on them.
