Thrifty Finds for Your Cleaning Needs

Rags? You can find them cheap at the thrift store! No need to waste money on new ones when you can repurpose stuff you already have. Pillowcases, old bedsheets, and shirts make great cleaning rags if they’re in good shape. If not, you can use them as sewing scraps to make new rags. Saves you money and keeps stuff out of the trash.

You may already have some old towels or other fabrics you can cut up. Check the thrift store for bedsheets, pillowcases, towels, and even t-shirts or curtains you can turn into cleaning rags. Look for natural fabrics like cotton that are super absorbent. You can even find fun patterned fabrics if you want your rags to have a little personality.

Look for 100% cotton fabrics at the thrift store – they’ll soak up spills better than synthetic stuff. Avoid polyester and go for natural fibers like cotton, linen, bamboo, or hemp. Give your new rags a wash before using them, just to be safe. Then organize them by room so you have the perfect rags on hand.

Cotton rags will eventually start to fray and break down. That’s okay though, because cotton is an organic material that composts easily. You can either compost the worn-out rags or bury them to let them decompose naturally. Don’t feel guilty about tossing them when they’re done!
