You may not think your walls get too dirty, but if you take a closer look, you’ll likely spot those pesky scuff marks all over, especially down low. These surface-level marks are usually caused by shoes or furniture rubbing against the wall. The residue from these objects sticks to the wall and can be a pain to wipe off with a regular paper towel or sponge. But don’t worry, you don’t need any fancy cleaning products to get rid of those stubborn marks. All you need is a simple microfiber cloth.
Microfiber cloths are made of millions of super-tiny synthetic fibers, usually nylon and polyester. These fibers are around 200 times thinner than a human hair! This gives the cloth tons of absorbency and surface area. The tiny fibers can glide over dirt and grime, “grab” onto the particles, and trap them between the strands. That’s why it feels like the cloth “catches” when you wipe it across your hand. This clever design makes microfiber cloths super effective at removing those pesky wall scuffs.
How to get rid of wall scuff marks using a microfiber cloth
To tackle those wall scuffs with your microfiber cloth, start by lightly wetting the cloth. This will give you a bit more cleaning power. Then just wipe the mark in a circular motion until it comes off. For really stubborn marks, you can sprinkle on a bit of baking soda or make a baking soda-and-water paste and rub it in with the cloth. Just be sure to wipe off any baking soda residue when you’re done – you don’t want that left behind, especially on flat or matte paint, as it could scrub off some of the paint.
One more microfiber tip – try folding the cloth into eighths so you have lots of clean sides to use. A lot of people make the mistake of not folding it or not washing it regularly, which can reduce the cloth’s lifespan. To wash it, just separate from other fabrics and use the gentle cycle (skip the fabric softener and dryer sheets). You can also hand wash in lukewarm water.
