Trash and clutter can really mess up your kitchen’s vibe – even a beautifully designed space can end up looking cluttered if your trash can is in the wrong spot. So you might want to find a way to hide it. There are a few different approaches, but one of the most stylish is to tuck your trash can and other odds and ends inside a custom IKEA cabinet. Just place the can inside and cover it with a half curtain or cabinet doors. Then add a countertop on top to give you extra storage and display space. When you’ve got this all set up, you’ll have a sleek, hidden spot for your garbage. Guests will never even know it’s there. Plus, this setup helps contain any trash odors. Another perk is that you can match the cabinet and countertop to your kitchen’s existing design for a cohesive look.

Use an IKEA floor cabinet to hide your trash can and clutter
Before you even set foot in IKEA, figure out where exactly you want to put the cabinet. A corner or against a wall is usually the best spot. Measure the length, width, and height of that area so you know what size cabinet to get. An IKEA SEKTION floor cabinet like the one shown is a great option – you can customize it with your choice of countertop (from IKEA or elsewhere) and doors (IKEA has lots to choose from). If your budget is tighter, skip the doors and just use curtains instead – you can easily hang them with a tension rod.

The last step is choosing the right trash can. Make sure it’s not wider or taller than the cabinet opening. You may be able to fit two smaller bins side-by-side if you go with something compact like the 7-Quart Waste Basket from IKEA. Once the trash is tucked away, have fun decorating the top – you can style it with decor or even use it to stash an appliance.
