Having a boring bathroom can be frustrating, but a full renovation isn’t always the answer. Interior designer Lyndsay Lamb, co-host of HGTV’s “Unsellable Houses,” has a quick and easy fix – just swap out the bathroom cabinet hardware!
Changing the pulls, knobs, or handles on your vanity drawers and cabinet doors can give the space a much fresher, more modern vibe. It’s as simple as unscrewing the old hardware and putting on new, sleek versions. This is a super fast and affordable upgrade compared to a full bathroom remodel.
Choosing new hardware for your bathroom cabinetry
The key is to measure your existing hardware so you can find replacements that will fit in the same holes without needing to drill new ones. Aim for pulls that are about one-third the width of your drawers – not too big or too small.
Lyndsay used shiny chrome hardware in her bathroom, which reflects light to make the space feel bigger. Matching the hardware to other fixtures like the sink, lights, and towel rack creates a cohesive, intentional look.
When picking new hardware, also think about functionality. Rounded or low-profile pulls can be harder to grip with wet, slippery hands. Opt for easy-to-hold handles instead.
How to replace bathroom cabinetry hardware for an updated look
Swapping out the hardware is super easy. First, use a screwdriver to remove the old pulls, knobs, or handles. Give the cabinet fronts a quick wipe down while you have them off.
Then just slot the new hardware through the existing holes and screw it in place. Be careful not to over-tighten, as that could crack the wood. If the new pulls are a little loose, add some rubber washers between the metal and the wood to stop them from rattling.
