A man who says he has travelled back from the future has told a YouTube channel that money as we know it will soon disappear, and that catastrophe awaits future generations. He would not give his name, and he offered no proof. Plenty of viewers say they are not buying it.
The man appeared in an interview with the channel TheTimeAuthority. He said he reached our time through what he called fourth-dimensional temporal displacement, and that he kept his name private for security reasons. He also said he could not describe the future in full, because doing so would create "temporal paradoxes" that might permanently change what is to come.
The group watching over time
According to the visitor, his activities are being tracked by higher powers who monitor changes to the timeline. He claimed a secret organisation called the Time Authority keeps the order of world events and history intact. "The Time Authority, they’re an organisation whose job it is to keep the chronological stream from veering in any one direction," he said.
He described the group as hard-working and tough. "They would tell you they’re here to protect you," he said, adding: "You don’t want to get their attention." They could make his life very difficult, he claimed, if he gave too many specific details. He also said they already know how the interview will end, and that they would have stopped it if they disliked what was happening.
Warnings about money and disaster
Even with those limits, he hinted at humanity’s fate, although he gave no timeframes for any disasters. He said society is heading towards the end of traditional currency, to be replaced by another economic system. "Money as you know it, disappears relatively soon after this interview but the end of money is actually a good thing," he said.
The news was not all good. "Your children and great-grandchildren will certainly see catastrophe," he warned. "When societies collapse, it’s not pretty."
He also suggested that shortages of food, energy and money, which worry people today, are no longer a concern in his own era. When pressed for more, he refused, saying the Time Authority would "come down hard" on him.
He was confident that his organisation’s work succeeds. "We know that what I’m doing, that the organisation that I’m part of, the stuff we do works," he said. "And it is not for you to question our methods. We don’t need proof. All we need is to encourage innovators."
Viewers push back
Many people who watched the video were unimpressed. One sceptic wrote that you can tell it is fake because the English language would change dramatically if a time traveller went back 1,000 years. Another joked that they hoped time travel becomes real in their lifetime so they could go back and tell themselves not to waste time watching it.
A commenter named Brad Louis was blunter still, calling the video "such a waste of time", saying it is fake and claiming it is full of lies.
For now, the story rests entirely on the man’s own word. He has not given his name, and he has not offered evidence or dates for any of his predictions. Whether money really will vanish is something only time will tell.
