The Lavish Loo Paper: What the Rich Use

Turns out the rich and famous have a taste for unique, colorful toilet paper. Celebs like Kris Jenner and Simon Cowell reportedly use luxe European brands like Renova, which comes in bold hues like red, black, and neon. I was curious to see what this fancy toilet paper was all about, so I picked up some Renova to try it out.

Renova toilet paper’s luxury reveal

When the Renova arrived, my husband and I couldn’t help but laugh at the super-saturated colors and over-the-top packaging. The solid red rolls were three-ply and cost $17.99 for a pack of six, while the limited edition black and red rolls were four-ply and came in a fancy gift box for $34.99. The paper had a light scent, but it wasn’t very soft or absorbent compared to our usual Charmin. It was strong and thick, though, so we ended up using less of it than our regular recycled brand.

Does Renova perform like a luxury toilet paper?

While the Renova was definitely strong, it wasn’t as soft as the Charmin we’re used to. At over $2 per 100 sheets for the red rolls and $25 per 100 sheets for the gift box, the lack of softness was a letdown. On the plus side, the Renova did seem to break down well in water, making it septic-safe. But the lingering red or black in the bowl was unsettling. Overall, the performance didn’t quite match the luxury price tag.

Beyoncé’s rumored toilet paper of choice isn’t very practical

I can see the appeal of the bold colors for design-conscious celebs. But for the average person, Renova’s luxe look is probably overkill. The bright red and black are just distracting and a little unsettling in the bathroom. And at 25 bucks a pop for the gift box, it’s a total splurge that doesn’t really deliver on performance. Unless you’re Beyoncé, I’d save your money and stick with a more practical (and affordable) toilet paper option.
