Ben Napier and Erin Napier, the talented duo behind HGTV’s “Home Town,” know how to work their magic. Ben, being the skilled woodworker that he is, is always dreaming up creative ways to breathe new life into everyday items. In one memorable episode, he took a client’s disliked front door and turned it into a stunning jewelry armoire. Erin had the brilliant idea to model it after the client’s mother’s jewelry armoire, and Ben knew just how to make it happen using that mahogany front door.
As Ben explained, “The front door is a mahogany door, and we’re wanting to use some of that to build her jewelry armoire. So, in that way, she’s still getting that ‘Home Town’ treatment of, we’re taking something of the house, from her home, and we’re building her something new with it.” And the final result was a showstopper that left the client in tears – a far cry from her initial dislike of the traditional door.
Create a jewelry armoire inspired by Ben Napier
When crafting the piece, Ben put his own spin on the design, wanting to make it a little more personalized for the client. “What I’m wanting to do is, essentially, take the design of her mom and make it a little bit different, a little more Angie. I mean, she doesn’t wear a lot of jewelry. So, we’re going to keep it a little simpler.” The final armoire incorporated the upper rail from the front door, with classic molding and a rounded crown on top. The hinged top reveals the hidden jewelry compartment, while the bottom features a streamlined cabinet and drawers with gold hardware.
If you’re feeling inspired to create your own jewelry armoire, you don’t have to start from scratch like Ben did. You can take a pre-made base and add the decorative jewelry box top. For a similar look, consider this warm-toned wood option. The key is to embrace the power of a standing, classic-style piece to beautifully display your jewelry collection.
