A man who says he has traveled through time has stepped forward with a video, a blurry photograph and a warning about where humanity is heading. His face is hidden and his voice is disguised, but he insists he has come from the year 6,000.

The strange footage shows him sitting down with a reporter at a secret location. Over a long conversation, he describes what he calls secret technologies and the fate of the human race. It has already been watched more than 3 million times.

A secret program

The man says he took part in a clandestine program that sent people forward in time during the 1990s.

According to him, the world of the year 6,000 would make our own lives look primitive. He says medicine, political systems and technology will all have advanced far beyond anything we know today. People, he claims, live in harmony under the wise leadership of an artificial intelligence ruler.

He also describes one idea that sounds like the plot of the film Downsizing. Future advances, he says, will let people shrink their physical size, which removes any worry about population growth.

The photo that looks like a painting

Halfway through the discussion, he produces what he says is a picture of a future city. Unfortunately for anyone hoping for proof, the image is so fuzzy that it looks more like a Monet painting than a gleaming high-tech skyline.

He has an answer for that. "In the time travel process pictures tend to get distorted, as well as many other things," he says.

He admits that many viewers will not believe him. "I know a lot of you are going to find my story extremely hard to believe and I don’t blame you," he says.

"It is not my intention to deceive anybody, I simply want to spread a message about the future of humanity and where the world is heading."

A friend left behind

The interview takes an unexpected emotional turn when the man becomes visibly upset. He explains that he left a close companion behind, someone who was unable to come back with him.

"I know he’s in a good place," he says. "In a way the future is like a utopia but sadly when we attempted to travel back we couldn’t. I just wanted to see him one more time."

It is a moment that gives the otherwise bizarre interview a more human edge, whether or not viewers think his story is true.

What happens next

The footage was posted to ApexTV, a channel that focuses on unexplained phenomena and supernatural events. Its millions of views suggest plenty of people are curious, even if they are skeptical.

No evidence beyond the distorted photograph has been offered, and the man’s identity remains secret. For now, his claims rest entirely on his word and a picture that looks like an impressionist painting.

Still, anyone who wants an answer will not have to wait long if he is right. He says time travel will be revealed to the public by 2028.
